Suriname Joint Stakeholder Report for the United Nations Universal Periodic Review: The Death Penalty

This report addresses Suriname's compliance with its international human rights obligations with respect to the death penalty. Suriname abolished the death penalty in its Penal Code in 2015 and in its Military Penal Code in August 2021.1 Since its third-cycle UPR in November 2021, however, Suriname has not acceded to the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, despite repeated commitments to do so.
