View from Minnesota: January 2026
Federal agents conducting warrantless immigration raids across Minnesota. Families separated. People detained without due process. Protesters met with force. People killed on our city's streets. These abuses didn't begin with this operation: they have existed for decades, the result of an immigration system that fundamentally disregards international human rights standards.
We are taking action.
In the past week, The Advocates for Human Rights has:
- Sued the federal government for the illegal detention of refugees under Operation PARRIS
- Secured restoration of court observer access after we were illegally denied entry to the immigration courts
- Filed a friend-of-the-court brief in State of Minnesota v. Noem on international human rights violations, including extrajudicial killings, taking place in our community
Meanwhile, we continue to represent thousands of people in asylum, trafficking, and children's deportation cases.
This isn't just about immigration-it's about authoritarianism. When government detains people without cause, denies legal representation, and operates without oversight, everyone's rights are threatened.
The DHS Appropriation Bill has passed through the House, but we still have a chance to stop it in the Senate!
